Job Costing Workspace

A record of estimated and actual costs for individual jobs so a business can understand where expenditure is going.

A job may look profitable at quotation stage but absorb more labour or materials during delivery. Costing records help project and commercial staff compare that estimate with checked actual inputs. It is useful when costs exist in separate records and cannot be attributed confidently to a job.

What it manages

A job can hold labour time, materials, supplier costs, agreed revenue and cost categories. Estimates and actuals remain separate. The workspace supports operational cost review and can pass information to accounting, but it does not automatically replace the company's financial books.

03

How it works in a business

An estimate establishes the planned costs. Staff record time and purchases against the job as work proceeds. The manager reviews differences, checks missing entries and closes the cost record when the job is complete, with reasons for material changes retained.

04

What SFn can customise

SFn can implement job categories, rate rules, approval steps and variance reports. Time, purchasing or accounting connections can be agreed. Sample calculations and rounding rules need business review before reports are used for pricing decisions.
